Stubbs and Gomez share NL POW honors

Cincinnati's Drew Stubbs and Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez, who shared the league lead with 10 RBIs apiece this week, were named the National League's co-Players of the Week on Monday.

It is the first career weekly award for the two center fielders.

Stubbs helped lead the Reds to a 6-0 mark last week, batting .370 (10-for-27) while tying Gomez for the league lead in stolen bases (three) and RBIs. Stubbs also ranked second in the NL in runs (nine) and hits (10), while also hitting three home runs and recording 21 total bases.

He leads the Reds with 21 stolen bases this season, and has already hit 12 home runs, 10 shy of his career best.

Gomez, who led the Majors with 10 runs scored last week, hit .346 (9-for-26) over seven games, while slugging four home runs.

Gomez collected hits in six of the seven games, with three multihit efforts. He recorded season highs on July 23 with three RBIs and three runs scored on a 2-for-2 afternoon, which also included a home run.

Other noteworthy performances this week include Gomez's teammate Aramis Ramirez (.417 batting average, 10 hits, four doubles, two homers, six RBIs), and Stubbs' teammates Mat Latos (2-0, 2.77 ERA, 13 innings pitched, 11 strikeouts) and Aroldis Chapman (four saves, four innings pitched, 0.00 ERA, eight strikeouts).
