Barnes, Bogaerts represent Sox in Futures Game

BOSTON -- Two Red Sox prospects who have created a buzz over the last year will be on display at the 14th annual Futures Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on July 8.

Matt Barnes, the dominant right-hander out of the University of Connecticut who was selected by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, will represent the United States roster.

And Xander Bogaerts, the exciting shortstop who was signed as an international free agent in 2009, will be on the World roster.

The Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on's Gameday on Sunday, July 8, at 5 p.m. ET. In addition, XM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on MLB Network Radio XM 89. will also provide complete coverage before, during and after the game. Major League Baseball, along with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau,, Baseball America and the 30 Major League baseball clubs, selected the 25-man rosters.

Barnes, 22, has split this season between Class-A affiliates Greenville and Salem, going 7-1 with a 0.99 ERA in 13 starts and holding opponents to a .176 average.

Bogaerts is hitting .293 with nine homers and 42 RBIs for Salem, and has a .368 on-base percentage. The 19-year-old right-handed hitter hails from Aruba.
