Red Sox claim Rosario off waivers from Marlins

The Red Sox on Wednesday claimed right-hander Sandy Rosario off waivers from the Marlins, designating outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin for assignment to make room for Rosario on the 40-man roster.

Rosario, 27, posted a 1.04 ERA in 25 appearances for Miami's Triple-A affiliate this season, striking out 24 batters and walking only two in 26 innings. He also held opponents to a .215 average against while saving 16 games. He made four appearances for Miami in 2012, allowing six runs in three innings, and has appeared in 10 Major League games with the Marlins over the past three seasons.

Lin, 24, hit .250 in nine games for the Red Sox this season. A right-handed batter, he hit .247 with 11 doubles, five triples and two home runs for Triple-A Pawtucket this season. He was originally signed by Boston as an international free agent in 2007 and is a .256 career Minor League hitter.
