Padilla signs one-year deal to play in Japan

Veteran right-hander Vicente Padilla, who went 4-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 56 relief appearances with the Red Sox last season, has signed a one-year, $3.25 million deal with Japan's SoftBank Hawks, according to an industry source.

Padilla spent 14 years in the big leagues and owns a career record of 108-91 with a 4.32 ERA.

The 35-year-old also pitched for the Phillies (six seasons), Rangers (four), Dodgers (three) and D-backs (two). He was an All-Star in 2002 with the Phillies, when he went 14-11 with a 3.28 ERA.
