Safe call overturned following review in fifth inning against White Sox
BOSTON --- Stephen Drew picked up an Adam Eaton ground ball on a short hop and threw on the run to first, getting the ball there in plenty of time to pick up the second out in the top of the fifth inning at Fenway Park on Monday night.
But first baseman Mike Napoli stretched for the throw, and first-base umpire Jim Joyce ruled that Napoli came off the bag in the process. John Farrell immediately emerged from the dugout to talk to Joyce, and Napoli emphatically hit his glove to signal to his manager that he tagged the runner.
After a review, the call was overturned and Eaton was out at first base. The review took approximately one minute and 33 seconds. Clay Buchholz got Gordon Beckham to pop out to Napoli to end the inning.
