FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Pablo Sandoval looks like a prime candidate to win the American League's Comeback Player of the Year Award. The third baseman roped two doubles for the Red Sox in Monday's 7-4 victory over the Orioles to raise his Grapefruit League batting average to .349.
"He had some really good at-bats today, particularly left-handed," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "He had some deep at-bats using the whole field, the bat speed is there."
Pedro Alvarez had two hits for the O's, including his second home run of Spring Training.
Hanley Ramirez also had a strong day for Boston with two hits and three RBIs, and Sandy Leon went 2-for-3. Marco Hernandez continues to make a strong push to win a spot off the bench, as he ripped two more hits and is hitting .415.

Non-roster invitee Kyle Kendrick (3-0, 1.96 ERA) turned in another strong start for the Red Sox, scattering five hits and two runs over five innings. The veteran righty walked one and struck out four. He doesn't project into the Red Sox rotation currently, but would likely be the first starter the club calls on if there is an injury.
"I feel like I can still pitch in the big leagues," said Kendrick. "That's my goal. I wanted to come here and be healthy and show I can pitch and pitch in the big leagues. I've got to keep it going."
The Orioles were supposed to start former Red Sox left-hander Wade Miley, but he was scratched due to flu-like symptoms. Left-hander Vidal Nuno, who was set to follow Miley, started and allowed three runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Nuno said that it wasn't difficult starting on such short notice. "It was being behind in the count and finishing my two-strike pitches," he said.
Orioles Up Next: Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez gets his fifth Grapefruit League start on Tuesday as the Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. Fla. at 1:05 p.m. ET. In his last two starts, Jimenez has allowed six earned runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings.
Red Sox Up Next: Lefty Chris Sale will get his first taste of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry when he starts Tuesday's 6:35 p.m. ET road game at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Dustin Pedroia, Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr., Mitch Moreland and Sandy Leon will be in the lineup. Some of those hitters will get a good test, as flame-throwing Yankees closer Albertin Chapman is scheduled to work an inning. The game can be seen on MLB.TV.
