The left-hander recorded 9.62 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and held opponents to a .224 batting average, totaling 155 strikeouts against 55 walks. With the Sea Dogs last season, Beeks recorded a 25.0-inning scoreless streak from April 22-May 18, the second-longest in Portland franchise history. Selected by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2014 June Draft, he has posted a 3.78 ERA (180 ER/428.1 IP) in 80 minor league appearances (78 starts). In his final five games with the Javelinas, he struck out seven batters and walked none. Selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2012 June Draft, Buttrey began his professional career as a starting pitcher before moving to the bullpen during the 2016 season. In 64 relief appearances for Portland and Pawtucket from 2016-17, he has posted a 4.09 ERA (48 ER/105.2 IP).

Shepherd, 25, made 33 relief appearances and one start for Pawtucket in 2017, his fourth season in the Red Sox minor league system. After earning his first career invitation to major league spring training, the right-hander posted a 1-5 record with two saves and a 4.07 ERA in 59.2 innings for the PawSox, striking out 68 and walking just 18 for a 3.78 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
