Prior to tonight's game against the Atlanta Braves, the Boston Red Sox made the following roster moves:

• Infielder Brandon Phillips was selected to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Pawtucket. He will wear number 0.

• Third baseman Rafael Devers was returned from his injury rehab assignment with Pawtucket and activated from the 10-day disabled list.

The Red Sox 40-man roster is now at 40.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Phillips, 37, signed with Boston as a Minor League free agent in June and hit .304 (52-for-171) with 14 doubles, five home runs, and 26 RBIs between Triple-A Pawtucket (38 games) and Short-A Lowell (six games). The three-time National League All-Star has earned four Gold Glove Awards at second base and won the Silver Slugger Award at the position in 2011, all with the Cincinnati Reds. Originally selected by the Montreal Expos in the second round of the 1999 MLB Draft, Phillips has hit .275 (2,026-for-7,355) with 368 doubles, 35 triples, 210 home runs, and 949 RBIs over 16 Major League seasons with Cleveland (2002-05), Cincinnati (2006-16), Atlanta (2017), and the Los Angeles Angels (2017).

Devers, 21, was placed on the disabled list on August 17 with a left hamstring strain. In five rehab games with Triple-A Pawtucket, he went 7-for-21 (.333) with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run, and two RBIs. In his second Major League season this year, Devers has played 102 games for the Red Sox, batting .242 (94-for-389) with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and 55 RBIs, making 99 starts at third base and one as the designated hitter. Originally signed as an international free agent in 2013, the Dominican native made his Major League debut with the Red Sox in 2017 at the age of 20, hitting .284 (63-for-222) with an .819 OPS and 10 home runs in 58 games.
