BOSTON -- As part of the 2018 Boston Pride Week festivities in the City of Boston, the Red Sox will participate in the Boston Pride Parade on Saturday, June 9, and celebrate members of Boston's LGBTQ community in ceremonies before the 7:10 p.m. Red Sox-Tigers game at Fenway Park tomorrow, Thursday, June 7.
Starting tomorrow, the club will fly the rainbow flag above Fenway Park, where it will remain throughout the weekend.
During Thursday's Pride Night ceremony, the National Anthem will be performed by the Boston Gay Men's Chorus, and members of New England's first LGBTQ veterans organization, OUTVETS, will fly the colors. The ceremonial first pitch has been raffled off to raise money for Victory Programs, a Boston-based nonprofit that helps the homeless with their substance use disorders, and other health issues. Over 1,200 members of the LGBTQ community will gather from 5:40 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a pregame party on the Sam Deck before the game.
On Saturday, close to 40 members of the Red Sox front office and their families, along with Wally the Green Monster, will participate in the Boston Pride Parade. The parade starts at noon on Boylston Street and ends at City Hall Plaza.
The Red Sox have hosted Pride Night at Fenway Park since 2013, when Jason Collins was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the ballpark shortly after coming out as the first openly gay athlete playing in American professional sports. Pride Night at Fenway Park is an official Boston Pride Week event and part of the club's ongoing effort to make Fenway Park an inclusive environment open to all fans regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
