Carp exits game with right hamstring tightness

BALTIMORE -- Red Sox first baseman Mike Carp left Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Orioles with right hamstring tightness after hitting a double in the seventh inning.

"He felt cramping go up first base, but I don't think it's a pull," manager John Farrell said. "Strength testing in the training appeared to be not far off from normal. Hopefully with the day off [Monday], he'll be available on Tuesday. Again, it wasn't a pull. It was more of a cramping situation, probably because of the humidity and the heat over the past couple of days."

Carp started the previous two games after regular first baseman Mike Napoli was forced to go back to Boston with dizziness and nausea.

"Hopefully, it's just a cramp," Carp said. "It's been pretty humid the last couple of days. I don't feel too concerned about it. I have the rest of the night off and tomorrow. Almost two full days until we play again, so I'm pretty confident I'll be back out there Tuesday."

Carp has been one of Boston's most productive hitters despite limited at-bats. He is second on the club with eight home runs.

Shane Victorino pinch-ran for Carp and stayed in the game in right field. Daniel Nava, who started in right, moved to first base.
