Red Sox making plans if Buchholz goes on DL

Doubront, Aceves to start Tuesday doubleheader; De La Rosa optioned

BALTIMORE -- As right-hander Clay Buchholz continues to experience soreness in his neck, Red Sox manager John Farrell has been forced to make adjustments to his rotation.

Farrell said Felix Doubront will start one game of a doubleheader Tuesday against Tampa Bay. Alfredo Aceves will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to start the other. The Red Sox also recalled reliever Pedro Beato from Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday and optioned Rubby De La Rosa, who could still start Saturday against Detroit if Buchholz has to go on the disabled list.

"As we stated the other day, we didn't want Rubby to get too far away from the progress he is making in that role," Farrell said. "Given our situation with Clay, and the doubleheader on Tuesday, we're just trying to keep as many options open."

Buchholz is scheduled to throw in the bullpen Tuesday, and from there, the club will decide the next course of action.

"We're hopeful it's Tuesday, but as Clay is also aware that if it's not by Tuesday, then we'll have to make a roster spot," Farrell said.
