Red Sox recall infielder Ivan De Jesus Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket

BOSTON, MA-The Boston Red Sox today recalled infielder Ivan De Jesus, Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket.  He will be active for today's game against the Athletics in Oakland, wearing No. 56.  With the move, the club's active Major League roster is at 27.

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington.  

De Jesus was optioned to Pawtucket after being acquired on August 25 as part of a nine-player trade with the Dodgers.  The 25-year-old has hit .385 (10-for-26) with a double, five runs scored and two walks in seven contests for the PawSox.  He spent the majority of the season with Los Angeles' Triple-A Albuquerque affiliate, hitting .295 (66-for-224) with 12 doubles, three triples, three homers and 33 RBI over 60 games, and has combined between the two clubs to rank sixth among Triple-A qualifiers with a .361 batting average (39-for-108) since the start of August.  He has appeared at second base (49 games), shortstop (10), third base (6), left field (2) and right field (1) in 67 combined minor league games this year.  The right-handed batter has also appeared in 23 contests for the Dodgers over two Major League stints in 2012, batting .273 (9-for-33) with three doubles, four RBI and five runs scored.  The Dodgers second-round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, De Jesus made his Major League debut with Los Angeles last year and owns a .231 average (15-for-65) in 40 Big League games.  He has a lifetime .298 average (819-for-2,747) with 132 doubles, 14 triples, 30 home runs, 333 RBI, 435 runs, 306 walks and 66 stolen bases in 729 minor league games.  He is the son of 15-year Major League veteran shortstop Ivan De Jesus, Sr.
