Red Sox to commemorate Veterans Day on Fri., Nov. 10

The Red Sox will commemorate Veterans Day and recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces on Friday, November 10.

The Red Sox will commemorate Veterans Day and recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces on Friday, November 10, with visits to veterans hospitals and homes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and with the 90-minute broadcast of the Third Annual Home Base Veterans Day Special airing at 7:30 p.m. in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Throughout the day on Friday, Red Sox alumnus Sam Horn will visit with veterans at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence, RI (9:15-10:15 a.m.); the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA (1-2 p.m.); and the New England Center and Home for Veterans in Boston, MA (3:15-4:15 p.m.). Horn will be joined by Fenway Ambassadors, Wally the Green Monster, and the 2004, 2007, and 2013 World Series Trophies.

On Friday evening, a telethon supporting Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, will air at 7:30 p.m. in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine on WCVB, WMUR, and WMTW, respectively. The Home Base Program helps veterans, service members, and their families heal the "invisible wounds of war" such as post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury.
The Veterans Day special is hosted by WCVB news anchor and U.S. Air Force Veteran Randy Price, and WMUR news anchor and military spouse Amy Coveno. The broadcast will feature stories from military families, interviews with Home Base staff, and messages from some of Home Base's top supporters including Red Sox Foundation Honorary Chairman Tim Wakefield.

On Saturday, November 11, the Red Sox will offer free Fenway Park tours for all veterans and active duty servicemen and women. Tours are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Veterans Day and throughout the offseason departing at the top of the hour.
