The Red Sox ask fans to arrive early and take public transportation to Fenway Park this Friday, June 23, for the Red Sox-Angels game when the club will celebrate 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series Champion David Ortiz, and will retire his number 34 prior to the game.
The number 34 will be the 11th on the right field facade of Fenway Park, joining Bobby Doerr's #1; Joe Cronin's #4; Johnny Pesky's #6; Carl Yastrzemski's #8; Ted Williams' #9; Jim Rice's #14; Wade Boggs' #26; Carlton Fisk's #27; Pedro Martinez's #45; and Jackie Robinson's #42, which is retired throughout Major League Baseball.
Fans are asked to be in their seats by 6:30 p.m. to enjoy the ceremony before the 7:10 p.m. game. All Fenway Park gates will open early at a special time of 5:10 p.m. for the celebration.  
The club anticipates heavy traffic around Fenway Park leading up to Friday's game and encourages fans to take public transportation.
In addition to taking the popular T to Kenmore Square, the commuter rail trains arrive at Yawkey Station, just 511 feet from the doorstep of Fenway Park. Yawkey Station is part of the commuter rail's Framingham/Worcester line, which runs from Worcester to South Station.
