Prior to Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics, the Boston Red Sox added right-handed pitcher Steven Wright to the active Major League roster and placed right-handed pitcher Hector Velazquez on the 10-day disabled list with a low back strain.

Wright, 33, began the season on the 10-day disabled list recovering from left knee surgery. On April 28, he was returned from his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket, reinstated from the disabled list, and placed on the restricted list for 15 games by Major League Baseball. In four appearances (two starts) for the PawSox this year, Wright posted a 4.30 ERA (7 ER/14.2 IP) with three walks and eight strikeouts. In his last two outings for Pawtucket on May 8 and May 11, he allowed only one run in 7.0 innings with zero walks. A 2016 All-Star with Boston, Wright is 21-14 with a 3.97 ERA (127 ER/287.2 IP) in 55 career major league appearances (40 starts), all with the Red Sox from 2013-17.
Velázquez, 29, is 5-0 with a 2.10 ERA (14 ER/50.1 IP) in 10 games for the Red Sox this season, including two starts. He earned his fifth win of the season yesterday in Toronto, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings of relief in the Red Sox' 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. A native of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, Velázquez pitched professionally in the Mexican League for seven seasons before making his major league debut last season with Boston. Since allowing six earned runs in his debut on May 18, 2017 at Oakland, the right-hander is 8-0 with a 1.59 ERA (8 ER/45.1 IP) and a .232 opponent batting average in his last 17 major league games, including four starts. In 13 career relief appearances, he has gone 6-0 with a 1.07 ERA (3 ER/25.1 IP) and a 1.03 WHIP.
