Red Sox place RHP Phillips Valdez on COVID-19 related injured list

Boston Selects RHP Brad Peacock from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Phillips Valdez on the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To fill Valdez’s spot on the active roster, the Red Sox selected right-handed pitcher Brad Peacock from Triple-A Worcester.

Valdez, 29, has made 28 appearances for the Red Sox this season, posting a 5.85 ERA (26 ER/40.0 IP) with 35 strikeouts. He has also recorded a 3.68 ERA (6 ER/14.2 IP) in 15 games for Worcester, striking out 18 batters and walking eight with a .241 opponent batting average.

Peacock, 33, made two appearances (one start) for Boston after being selected to the major league roster on August 31, allowing nine runs in 5.1 innings. The right-hander is 34-31 with a 4.11 ERA (256 ER/560.0 IP) in 183 career major league appearances (84 starts) for the Washington Nationals (2011), Houston Astros (2013-20), and Red Sox (2021).
