Red Sox place right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck on 15-day injured list

Club Recalls Right-Handed Pitcher Kaleb Ort from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck on the 15-Day Injured List due to lower back inflammation, retroactive to August 6. To fill Houck’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort from Triple-A Worcester.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Houck, 26, last appeared on August 2 against the Houston Astros, tossing 1.2 perfect innings to earn the save. The right-hander is 5-4 with a 3.15 ERA (21 ER/60.0 IP) in 32 appearances (four starts) this season, including a 2.70 ERA (13 ER/43.1 IP) in his 28 relief outings. Houck leads the Red Sox in saves this season (8-for-9) and is tied for the team lead in relief innings.

Ort, 30, tossed 1.0 scoreless inning for Worcester on Sunday, his lone appearance for the club since being optioned on Thursday. The right-hander has a 9.49 ERA (13 ER/12.1 IP) in 10 relief appearances for Boston this season, six of which have been scoreless. Ort allowed eight runs over 0.2 innings on July 22 against the Toronto Blue Jays but has a 3.97 ERA (5 ER/11.1 IP) in his other nine outings.
