In his final five games with the Javelinas, he struck out seven batters and walked none. Selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2012 June Draft, Buttrey began his professional career as a starting pitcher before moving to the bullpen during the 2016 season. In 64 relief appearances for Portland and Pawtucket from 2016-17, he has posted a 4.09 ERA (48 ER/105.2 IP).
