The Boston Red Sox today named Eddie Romero Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Romero and Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager, Brian O'Halloran, will both directly report to Dombrowski and assist in all aspects of baseball operations going forward. At this time, the Red Sox will not fill the position of General Manager for the club.

"The Red Sox are very pleased to announce Eddie's promotion to Assistant General Manager," said Dombrowski. "This is a very talented individual who we think can make a real impact for us with his background in player evaluation and his knowledge of our minor league system. A native Spanish speaker, his ability to communicate with both players and staff is significant, especially in today's game. We look forward to having Eddie onboard to assist our efforts to improve our ball club."

Romero, 37, is in his 11th year with the Red Sox organization. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Romero was elevated to the position of Vice President, International Scouting at the start of the 2016 season. In that role, he oversaw the club's amateur scouting coverage in Latin America in addition to the Pacific Rim and Europe, while also assisting with the team's domestic amateur scouting operation. Since joining the organization, Romero has played a significant role in the signings of Red Sox international prospects such as Yoan Moncada (Cuba), Rafael Devers (Dominican Republic), Luis Alexander Basabe (Venezuela), and Roniel Raudes (Nicaragua).

Romero, the son of former Red Sox infielder Ed Romero Sr., began his career with the club as an assistant in International and Professional Scouting in February of 2006. Romero worked as the team's Director of International Scouting over a four-year span from 2012-15 and has also held titles for the club as Coordinator and Assistant Director of Latin American Operations, and Assistant Director of Latin American Operations/International Scouting.

Before beginning a career in baseball, Romero worked as a prosecutor for the State Attorney's office for the Fourth Judicial District in Jacksonville, FL. He holds a bachelor's degree in sports management and a juris doctor degree from the University of Florida. Romero resides in Boston.
