Nolan Arenado, DJ LeMahieu and Tyler Chatwood named Wilson Defensive Players of the Year

DENVER - It was announced today that Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, second baseman DJ LeMahieu and pitcher Tyler Chatwood have been named Wilson Defensive Players of the Year at their respective positions.

This is Arenado's third consecutive Defensive Player of the Year Award and the second time LeMahieu has been named Wilson's top defender at second base after also winning in 2013. This is the first award for Tyler Chatwood, and the first defensive award of any kind awarded to a Rockies pitcher.

Arenado

  • Also won his fifth consecutive Gold Glove Award this year, the first player in Rockies history to win five consecutive Gold Gloves.
  • Is one of four players to win three or more Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Awards, joining Adrelton Simmons, Dustin Pedroia and Lorenzo Cain.
  • Led all National League third basemen in total chances (423), assists (311), double plays (39), defensive WAR (2.3), defensive runs saved (20) and range factor per game (2.64), while ranking second in fielding percentage (.979) and third in zone rating (.832).

LeMahieu

  • Won his second career Gold Glove this year (also: 2014).
  • Led all National League second basemen in total chances (729), assists (470), double plays (107), fielding percentage (.989), defensive WAR (1.2), defensive runs saved (8) and range factor per game (4.71), while ranking third in zone rating (.801).
  • Has the highest fielding percentage (.991) among all second basemen in NL history (min. 650 games).

Chatwood

  • One of 12 Major League pitchers to record a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
  • Ranked third among National League pitchers with 37 assists and first with a 2.26 assists per nine innings.
  • Tied for the Major League lead among pitchers with nine defensive runs saved (also: Dallas Keuchel).
