Tulo's two RBIs back strong De La Rosa vs. Cubs

MESA, Ariz. -- Troy Tulowitzki had two hits, including an RBI double, and added a sacrifice fly to lift the Rockies to a 2-0 victory Wednesday against the Cubs.

Tulowitzki doubled with one on and one out in the first to give the Rockies a quick lead. The Cubs loaded the bases with two outs in their half, but Jorge De La Rosa struck out Dioner Navarro to end the inning.

The Cubs loaded the bases again in the third, aided by a single by Starlin Castro, who has been sidelined since Feb. 27 because of a tight left hamstring. But De La Rosa escaped again, striking out Alfonso Soriano and Scott Hairston, and getting Navarro to fly out.

Navarro did help Cubs starter Edwin Jackson in the field. The catcher picked Michael Cuddyer off first base to end the fourth and also threw out Jordan Pacheco, who attempted steal second in the fifth.

De La Rosa struck out six, gave up four hits and walked two over four innings, while Jackson allowed up one run on three hits over five innings.

"He was able to do it because his changeup and curveball were really good today," manager Walt Weiss said. "We've been preaching that to all of our pitchers, how important that is. He looked like he really embraced that and commanded his changeup. It was a good one."

Castro went 1-for-1, drawing a walk in the first and hitting a single in the third.

The Rockies loaded the bases in the sixth against Kyuji Fujikawa and made it 2-0 on Tulowitzki's sacrifice fly.

Up next for Rockies: The Rockies are off Thursday, although right-hander Juan Nicasio and righty prospect Joe Gardner will pitch in Minor League action at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The Rockies will meet the Reds on Friday at 8:05 p.m. MT, with lefty Jeff Francis starting against Reds righty Johnny Cueto. Fans can listen via Gameday Audio.
