Chatwood strong in Minors game on Rockies' day off

Righty allows three hits over six scoreless innings vs. Giants' Triple-A squad

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Rockies right-hander Tyler Chatwood pitched in a Minor League game against Giants Triple-A players on Tuesday, and he held them scoreless on three hits over six strong innings.

Chatwood, a member of Colorado's starting rotation, struck out five and didn't walk anyone, throwing strikes on 51 of his 72 pitches.

The Rockies were off from Cactus League play Tuesday. They'll return to action Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. MDT (live on MLB.TV) against the Cubs at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Lefty Franklin Morales, competing for the final open rotation spot, will start for Colorado. The Cubs will start righty Carlos Villanueva.

Three solid Rockies bullpen members -- right-handed closer LaTroy Hawkins and righties Matt Belisle and Adam Ottavino -- along with righty hopeful Rob Scahill also are scheduled to work.
