RHP Jhoulys Chacin Transferred to the 60-Day Disabled List

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens. Additionally, the Rockies have optioned right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill to Triple-A and transferred right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. Jurrjens (#41) is scheduled to start against the Dodgers at Coors Field tonight (6:10 p.m. MDT).

Jurrjens, 28, was acquired by Colorado on July 2 from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for infielder Harold Riggins. The Willemstad, Curacao native was a 2011 National League All-Star after finishing the first half of that season leading the league in wins (12) and the second-lowest ERA (1.87). In 128 Major League games, 126 starts, the right-hander is 53-37 with a 3.63 ERA (758.0 ip, 306 er), 741 hits, 261 walks and 505 strikeouts.

In 32 career Major League games, all with Colorado, Scahill is 1-0 with a 4.56 ERA (47.1 ip, 24 er), 16 walks and 26 strikeouts. The Winfield, IL native was originally selected by Colorado in the 8th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Bradley University.

Chacin, 26, was originally placed on the disabled list on June 30 (retroactive to June 29) with right shoulder inflammation and has made 11 starts for Colorado this year after missing the first month of the season with a right shoulder strain. He has gone 1-7 with a 5.40 ERA (63.1 ip, 38 er) with five quality starts for the Rockies. The Maracaibo, Venezuela native is a veteran of five Major League seasons (2009-13), all with Colorado.
