DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free-agent infielder Daniel Murphy.
• Murphy, 33, appeared in 91 games between Washington and Chicago-NL in 2018, batting a combined .299 (98-for-328) with 15 doubles, 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 20 walks and three stolen bases. He began the 2018 season on the 10-day disabled list while recovering from right knee surgery before his reinstatement on June 12. He was acquired by Chicago-NL via trade on Aug. 21 after appearing in 56 games with Washington.
• Originally drafted by New York-NL in the 13th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, the Jacksonville, Fla., native has batted .299 (1421-for-4747) with 333 doubles, 28 triples, 122 home runs, 641 RBI, 325 walks and 67 stolen bases in 1,280 career games between New York-NL (2008-15), Washington (2016-18) and Chicago-NL (2018). Across parts of 10 seasons, he has appeared in 834 games at second base, 225 games at first base, 87 games at third base and 60 games in the outfield.
• A three-time All-Star (2014, 2016-17) and two-time Silver Slugger (2016-17), Murphy finished second in National League Most Valuable Player voting in 2016 after batting .347 (184-for-531) with 88 runs scored, 47 doubles, five triples, 25 home runs and 104 RBI. Since 2014, he ranks third among active players with a .308 batting average, tied for seventh with 180 doubles and ninth with a 9.08 plate appearances per strikeout rate.
• In 25 career postseason games, Murphy has batted .309 (30-for-97) with 21 runs scored, three doubles, eight home runs, 19 RBI, 15 walks and three stolen bases. He was named the 2015 National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player after going 6-for-17 (.529) with one double and four home runs in four games against New York-NL. His eight postseason home runs since 2015 are tied for the second most in the Major Leagues, while his 30 postseason hits rank tied for eighth.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
