Dickerson could return from injury soon
DENVER -- Rockies manager Walt Weiss didn't want to put percentages on it, but he said "there's a chance" that outfielder Corey Dickerson could return this weekend from his plantar fasciitis.
Dickerson has played in rehab games each of the past three days, seeing action with Class A Modesto on Sunday and Monday and Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. He's gone 4-for-11 with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored.
More importantly, perhaps, is that Dickerson has played the outfield for at least seven innings in all three contests.
"I'm not really concerned with the at-bats," Weiss said. "It's just, can you run around on defense in a spacious outfield? Can you run the bases? Speed of the game will take a little bit of time, but I don't think too much for Dickerson."
• Weiss said Michael McKenry has had some fluid in his right knee, which has made him unavailable the past few days. Backstop-turned-first baseman Wilin Rosario is the Rockies' emergency catcher at the moment, but Weiss said McKenry should be cleared on Friday, when Colorado opens up a three-game series against the Reds.
• Weiss said David Hale (mild left groin strain) has no issues throwing, but that the right-hander is still working on "the secondary things a National League pitcher has to do." The main part of that is running, which is how Hale originally strained his groin.
"He's another one of those guys that's getting close," Weiss said. [Christian Bergman] and [Brooks Brown] both threw bullpens today -- both went well. David, I'm not exactly sure where he is, but I know he's been throwing."
• Although injured first baseman Justin Morneau took infield before Tuesday's game, Weiss said for the first time on Wednesday that he's "not sure" if Morneau will return this season. The first baseman has been out since May with concussion symptoms and a cervical neck strain.
• Major League Baseball announced the results of the fourth annual Competitive Balance Lottery, and the Rockies received the third pick in Round A, which will immediately follow the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
