DENVER -- The Rockies reinstated right-handed pitcher Jairo Diaz from the 60-day disabled list and selected the contract of outfielder Noel Cuevas from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. The moves put the Rockies at 33 players on their Major League roster, seven fewer than the limit.
Diaz, 26, appeared in four games in 2017 and posted a 9.00 ERA in five innings. He made 21 appearances for Colorado in 2015 (0-1, 2.37 ERA), but missed 2016 following Tommy John surgery. Originally obtained from the Angels for infielder Jeff Rutledge before the 2015 season, Diaz is considered a power reliever who could compete for a late-innings bullpen role if healthy.
Cuevas, 26, batted .312 with 15 home runs and 79 RBIs in 128 games for Triple-A Albuquerque in 2017. The Rockies obtained Cuevas from the Dodgers after the 2014 season as the player to be named in the deal that sent right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio to the Dodgers. Cuevas hit .296 in 94 combined games across Double- and Triple-A with the Rockies in 2016.
