Michael Cuddyer placed on 15-Day DL with an inflamed cervical disc
Rockies Recall OF Charlie Blackmon from Triple-A Colorado Springs
The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed cervical disc. To take Cuddyer's place on the Rockies active roster the club has recalled outfielder Charlie Blackmon from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Blackmon will be available for tomorrow's Rockies at Cardinals game at Busch Stadium (12:15 p.m. MDT).
Cuddyer, 34, is in his second season with Colorado and has begun the season by batting .319 (38-for-119) with 8 doubles 1 triple, 7 home runs, 23 RBI and a .963 OPS (.383 OBP, .580 SLG). Cuddyer enters the disabled list ranking in the top-10 among National League players in batting average (7th), home runs (T-10th), OPS (9th), slugging percentage (6th) and extra-base hits (16, T-10th). The 2013 season represents Cuddyer's 13th in Major League Baseball and he is a career .319 hitter (1237-for-4549) with 277 doubles, 38 triples, 164 home runs and 661 RBI in 1,271 career games.
Blackmon, 26, began the 2013 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he has hit .336 (37-for-110) with 0 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 21 RBI and 35 runs scored in 31 games. Blackmon will be appearing in the Majors for the third-straight season with his first appearance. In 2012, Blackmon batted .283 (32-for-113) with 8 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBI and 15 runs scored. He is a career .270 (57-for-211) Major League hitter with 9 doubles, 3 home runs, 17 RBI and 24 runs scored in 69 games. Blackmon was originally drafted by Colorado in the second round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Georgia Tech University.
