Rockies looking for some magic in SU2C auction
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Rockies All-Star outfielder/first baseman Michael Cuddyer's magic tricks are popular with teammates and delightful features on the Coors Field video scoreboard. Now he is offering the chance to perform a show live for a generous fan.
A private magic show from Cuddyer is one of the prizes up for bid from the Rockies as they participate in an auction effort to benefit the Stand Up To Cancer campaign.
Baseball's Winter Meetings this week include an MLB.com Auction to benefit Stand Up To Cancer, which MLB has supported since 2008 as founding sponsor. Public relations representatives from all 30 clubs were inspired to act based on individual club members impacted by the disease, and they jointly organized the auction, which will be officially announced at a news conference on Monday in Lake Buena Vista with MLB staff.
Bidding closes at 8 p.m. MT Thursday with 80 baseball-related experiences ranging from private pitching and batting lessons with players to lunches with general managers to team bus rides and meet-and-greets with Hall of Fame players.
The winning bidder for the magic show will be at a date, location in the Denver area and size that will be agreed upon by Cuddyer and the winner. For example, the winner could arrange for Cuddyer to appear at his or her child's elementary school, and Cuddyer can do a quick magic show and interact with the students.
That's not all that's up for bidding from the Rockies.
Another prize is for four fans to receive a one-of-a-kind tour of the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Spring Training home of the Rockies. Fans will spend the day at the ballpark, touring the practice fields, visiting the offices, home clubhouse and the Minor Leaguer area of the complex, mingle with some front-office personnel while eating lunch in the Rockies' cafeteria, and watch a game from their seats after enjoying the pregame action.
A third prize occurs during the regular season. The Rockies will give a tour for four of the home clubhouse before a game. The tour includes a walk-through and behind-the-scenes look at Coors Field. Fans can watch batting practice, and tour the indoor batting cages, clubhouse, video room, food room, weight room and training room. Each member of the tour will receive signed memorabilia from current players and a chance to meet the rest of the team and coaching staff.
