RHP Zach Putnam recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs
Club also options RHP Alex White to Triple-A Colorado Springs
DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Zach Putnam from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster for Putnam, the Rockies have optioned right-handed pitcher Alex White to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Putnam (#54) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s Rockies vs. Nationals game at Coors Field (6:40 p.m. MDT).
Putnam, 24, will be making his second appearance on the Rockies active roster, as he was recalled as the Rockies’ 26th player for the club’s doubleheader on April 25th at Pittsburgh. Putnam tossed a scoreless inning of relief in game-two on April 25th. He has spent the remainder of the 2012 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs as the team’s closer. In 25 relief appearances for the Sky Sox, Putnam has gone 1-2 with 11 saves, a 4.94 ERA (27.1 ip, 15 er), 11 walks and 37 strikeouts. Putnam has appeared in nine career Major League games in 2011 (with Indians) and this season, and owns a 5.40 ERA (8.1 ip, 5 er) in the nine games. He was acquired by Colorado from Cleveland in exchange for Kevin Slowey on January 20, 2012.
White, 23, has gone 2-6 with a 6.45 ERA (51.2 ip, 37 er), 22 walks and 34 strikeouts in 10 starts for the Rockies since being recalled from Triple-A on May 8th. White began the season with the Triple-A Sky Sox and went 1-3 with a 2.92 ERA (24.2 ip, 8 er), 8 walks and 21 strikeouts in five starts. Over parts of two Major League seasons, White has gone 5-10 with a 6.73 ERA (103.0 ip, 77 er) in 20 starts, 17 of which have come with the Rockies. The former first round draft choice (15th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft by Cleveland was acquired by Colorado on July 31, 2011 along with three other players in exchange for Ubaldo Jimenez.
The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
