Rockies acquire INF Ryan Wheeler from Arizona in exchange for LHP Matt Reynolds

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has acquired infielder Ryan Wheeler from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for left-handed pitcher Matt Reynolds. Wheeler, who made his Major League debut in 2012 with Arizona, is now a member of the Rockies 40-man roster.
 
Wheeler, 24, split his 2012 season between Triple-A Reno and in the Majors with Arizona. Wheeler saw action in 50 games for the Diamondbacks after he was brought to Major Leagues on July 20th. He batted .239 (26-for-109) with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 10 RBI and 11 runs in his first 50 MLB games. In 93 games at Triple-A Reno, Wheeler batted .351 (127-for-362) with 27 doubles, 4 triples, 15 home runs, 90 RBI and a .960 OPS (.388 OBP, .572 SLG).  The 6-foot-3 corner infielder was a Mid-Season and Post-Season Triple-A All-Star in what was his first experience at that level. The Torrance, CA native was originally drafted by Arizona in the fifth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Loyola Marymount University.
 
Reynolds, 28, spent all of 2012 with Colorado, going 3-1 with a 4.40 ERA (57.1 ip, 28 er), 17 walks and 51 strikeouts in 71 appearances. In 165 career Major League games, all with Colorado, Reynolds is 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA (126.0 ip, 55 er), 40 walks and 118 strikeouts. Reynolds was originally selected by Colorado in the 20th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Austin Peay State University.
