Rockies activate Jonathan Herrera from 15-day DL

Club Options INF Tommy Field to Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has activated infielder Jonathan Herrera from the 15-day disabled list. The Rockies have also optioned infielder Tommy Field to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room on the active roster for Herrera. Herrera (#18) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s Rockies vs. Cardinals game at Coors Field (6:40 p.m. MDT).

Herrera, 27, missed 11 games while on the DL with an infection in his left wrist. He played three games for Triple-A Colorado Springs on a rehab assignment, and went 2-for-11 with one RBI in the three games. Herrera was a member of the Rockies Opening Day roster and has hit .246 (30-for-122) with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 6 RBI and 20 runs scored in 45 games. Herrera has appeared in the Major Leagues with Colorado in each of the last three seasons, as well as 2008. In his Major League career, Herrera has hit .255 (175-for-686) with 18 doubles, 5 triples, 7 home runs, 44 RBI and 87 runs. He was originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on April 6, 2002.

Field, 25, was recalled on Saturday to take the active roster spot of Marco Scutaro, who was traded to San Francisco on Friday. In two games, Field went 0-for-2 with a walk. Field has spent the remainder of the 2012 season with the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox, batting .254 (84-for-331) with 21 doubles, 5 triples, 7 home runs, 35 RBI and 58 runs in 91 games. The Austin, TX native made his Major League debut with Colorado in September of 2011, and he is a career .260 (13-for-48) Major League hitter with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored in 18 games. The middle infielder was named the 27th-best prospect in Colorado’s organization prior to the 2012 season by Baseball America. He was originally drafted by Colorado in the 24th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas State University.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
