Rockies recall of Tyler Colvin from Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled outfielder Tyler Colvin from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster for Colvin, the Rockies have optioned left-handed pitcher Josh Outman to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Colvin (#21) will be available for tonight's game vs. San Diego (5:15 p.m. MDT) at Coors Field.

Colvin, 27, began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs and hit .293 (56-for-191) with 8 doubles, 4 triples, 9 home runs, 29 RBI and 42 runs scored in 55 games. He has seen time at all three outfield positions including four starts at first base. Over his last 21 games, Colvin is hitting .343 (24-for-70) with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 14 RBI and 20 runs. The South Carolina native spent all of 2012 in the Majors with Colorado hitting .290 (122-for-420) with 27 doubles, 10 triples, 18 home runs, 72 RBI and 62 runs in 136 games. A former first round draft selection (9th overall) of the Chicago Cubs was acquired along with DJ LeMahieu on December 8, 2011 for Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers.

Outman, 28, began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs before being recalled by Colorado on April 19. Outman appeared in 19 games for the Rockies and went 2-0 with a 4.94 ERA (23.2 ip, 13 er) with 7 walks and 26 strikeouts. The left-hander has appeared in 79 career Major League games/32 starts and is 11-11 with a 4.4.72 ERA (215.2 ip, 113 er), 83 walks and 173 strikeouts. As a reliever, Outman is 3-2 with a 5.08 ERA (51.1 ip, 29 er) with 16 walks and 59 strikeouts over 32 appearances.

The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
