DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Jon Gray and left-handed pitcher Sam Howard from Triple-A Albuquerque and have optioned right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman to Triple-A. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Harrison Musgrave has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip flexor strain.
• Gray, 26, will start for the Rockies against the Seattle Mariners tonight … was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on June 30 and went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA (10.2 IP, 4 ER), four walks and 13 strikeouts in two starts with the Isotopes … is 7-7 with a 5.77 ERA (92.0 IP, 59 ER), 29 walks and 119 strikeouts in 17 starts for the Rockies this season … his 119 strikeouts rank sixth in the National League … the Shawnee, Okla., native was originally selected by the Rockies in the first round (third overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and is 27-23 with a 4.71 ERA (411.0 IP, 215 ER), 132 walks and 456 strikeouts in his career that spans parts of four seasons … the 456 strikeouts rank ninth all-time among Rockies pitchers. • Howard, 25, will be making his second stint on the Major League roster … was recalled for the first time June 9 and made his Major League debut against Arizona on June 10, allowing one hit in one inning of work … in 14 starts with Albuquerque is 3-6 with a 5.43 ERA (68.0 IP, 41 ER), 26 walks and 55 strikeouts … a third-round draft pick by Colorado in 2014 out of Georgia Southern University, has a career Minor League record of 29-35 with a 3.83 ERA (538.2 IP, 229 ER) in 104 games, 102 starts, since 2014.
• Hoffman, 25, was recalled from Albuquerque yesterday and made his first start of the season, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts in the 10-7 Rockies win … it was his second stint of the season after also being recalled on June 8 and making five relief appearances before being optioned on June 27 … in 13 starts with the Isotopes, is 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA (59.2 IP, 27 ER), 30 walks and 68 strikeouts … the Latham, N.Y., native is 6-9 with a 5.88 ERA (139.1 IP, 91 ER), 64 walks and 109 strikeouts across parts of three seasons with Colorado.
• Musgrave, 26, is 1-3 with a 4.76 ERA (28.1 IP, 15 ER), 16 walks and 20 strikeouts in 20 appearances since having his contract selected for the first time by the Rockies on April 23 … made his Major League debut against San Diego on April 23 and pitched one scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout … the Nutter Fort, W.V., native has gone 31-19 with a 4.02 ERA (413.2 IP, 185 ER) in 80 Minor League games, 78 starts, since 2014.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
