Rockies recall RHP Tyler Chatwood from Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster for Chatwood, the Rockies have optioned right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill to Triple-A. Chatwood (#32) will start tonight's Rockies vs. Giants game at Coors Field (6:10 p.m. MDT).

Chatwood, 23, is joining the Rockies for his second stint in the Major Leagues this season. He went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA (12.0 ip, 4 er) in two starts earlier this season (4/24-5/5) for Colorado. Chatwood has spent the remainder of 2013 at Triple-A, where he has gone 2-1 with a 3.14 ERA (28.2 ip, 10 er), 5 walks and 29 strikeouts in five starts. The Fontana, CA native owns a career Major League record of 12-17 with a 4.86 ERA (218.2 ip, 118 er), 107 walks and 123 strikeouts in 48 games/39 starts with Colorado (2012-13) and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2011). Chatwood was acquired by Colorado from the Angels on November 30, 2011 in exchange for catcher Chris Iannetta.

Scahill, 26, has been in the Majors with the Rockies for two separate stints this season, making two scoreless appearances (5.1 ip, 2 h, 2 so). Scahill began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and has made 11 relief appearances going 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA (26.2 ip, 16 er) and one save. Nine of his 11 appearances have been two innings or longer. The Illinois native pitched in six games with Colorado last season with a 1.04 ERA (8.2 ip, 1 er), did not receive a decision but finished three games. Scahill was an eighth round selection of the Rockies in the 2009 June Draft out of Bradley University.

The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
