Rockies reinstate LHP Josh Outman from 15-day DL

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has reinstated left-handed pitcher Josh Outman from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Rockies have optioned left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Outman (#88) will be in uniform and available in tonight’s game at Los Angeles.

Outman, 27, will be looking to make his Rockies debut with his first appearance. The left-hander has a career Major League record of 8-8 with a 3.75 ERA (151.1 ip, 63 er) in 33 appearances, 25 starts, all with Oakland (2008-11). Outman was placed on the 15-day disabled list March 30 with an oblique injury he suffered during Spring Training and made six rehab appearances between High-A Modesto, Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Colorado Springs. In those six appearances, Outman went 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA (7.0 ip, 1 er), two walks and seven strikeouts while holding opponents to a .217 (5-for-23) average. Outman was acquired by the Rockies along with right-hander Guillermo Moscoso on January 16, 2012 from Oakland in exchange for outfielder Seth Smith.

Pomeranz, 23, has a record of 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA (23.0 ip, 12 er), 15 walks and 20 strikeouts in five starts for the Rockies this season. The left-hander was recalled April 15 after beginning the season with Double-A Tulsa. In nine Major League starts Pomeranz has a record of 2-3 with a 5.01 ERA (41.1 ip, 23 er), 20 walks and 33 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .277 (44-for-159) average. Pomeranz has a career minor league record of 5-3 with a 1.71 ERA (105.0 ip, 20 er), 39 walks and 123 strikeouts in 21 starts. The Tennessee native was acquired by the Rockies in the five-player trade that sent right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland at the 2011 trade deadline.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
