Rockies select left-handed pitcher Jerry Vasto from Triple-A Albuquerque

The Colorado Rockies announced Sunday that they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Jerry Vasto and placed right-handed pitcher Scott Oberg on the 10-day disabled list with a back strain, retroactive to June 8.

The Colorado Rockies announced Sunday that they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Jerry Vasto and placed right-handed pitcher Scott Oberg on the 10-day disabled list with a back strain, retroactive to June 8. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Jairo Díaz has been designated for assignment.
 
•  Vasto, 26, will be making his first career appearance on the Rockies' active roster … in 19 relief appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque has gone 2-0 with three saves, a 1.71 ERA (21.0 IP, 4 ER), eight walks and 26 strikeouts … has not allowed a run in 16 of 19 appearances, including each of his last eight appearances since May 12 (9.0 innings) … in 161 career Minor League appearances, has gone 11-11 with a 3.70 ERA (189.2 IP, 78 ER), 74 walks and 227 strikeouts … was originally selected in the 24th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Felician College… will be wearing number 30.
Oberg, 28, has gone 1-0 with a 4.08 ERA (17.2 IP, 8 ER), six walks and 13 strikeouts in 16 appearances across two stints with the Rockies this season … has not allowed an earned run in six appearances since his most recent recall on May 28 … with Albuquerque this season, is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA (14.1 IP, 3 ER), two walks and 13 strikeouts across 12 appearances … the Tewksbury, Mass., native was originally selected by Colorado in the 15th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and has gone 5-6 with two saves, a 4.94 ERA (160.1 IP, 88 ER), 72 walks and 132 strikeouts since his Major League debut on April 14, 2015 vs. San Francisco. 
 
Díaz, 27, has made four relief appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, allowing four earned runs across 3.2 innings pitched (9.82 ERA) … has been on the disabled list since April 19 … made four relief appearances for the Rockies in 2017 after missing the 2016 season with Tommy John surgery, posting a 9.00 ERA (5.0 IP, 5 ER) … originally acquired by the Rockies via trade with the Los Angeles Angels on Dec. 10, 2014, Díaz has a career Major League record of 0-1 with a 3.64 ERA (29.2 IP, 12 ER), 14 walks and 28 strikeouts in 30 appearances across three seasons with Los Angeles-AL (2014) and Colorado (2015, 2017).
