Rockies transactions for November 2

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the following players have been claimed off outright waivers: right-handed pitchers Guillermo Moscoso, Zach Putnam and Josh Roenicke and infielder Tommy Field. Moscoso was claimed by Kansas City, Roenicke and Field were claimed by Minnesota and Putnam was claimed by the Chicago Cubs. In additional moves, right-handed pitcher Carlos Torres was outrighted off the Major League Roster, Colorado has reinstated infielder Todd Helton and right-handed pitchers Christian Friedrich and Juan Nicasio from the 60-day disabled list and the club selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Josh Sullivan.

Moscoso, 28, made four stints with the Rockies in 2012, spending the rest of his season with Triple-A Colorado Springs. Moscoso went 3-2 with a 6.12 ERA (50.0 ip, 34 er), 19 walks and 47 strikeouts in 23 appearances, 3 starts, for the Rockies. Moscoso was originally acquired from Oakland with LHP Josh Outman in exchange for OF Seth Smith on January 16, 2012.

Putnam, 25, made two appearances with the Rockies this season, not allowing a run in 2.0 innings. The right-hander spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs where he went 3-4 with a 4.15 ERA (60.2 ip, 28 er), 27 walks and 49 strikeouts in 49 relief appearances. Putnam was originally acquired from Cleveland in exchange for RHP Kevin Slowey on January 20, 2012.

Roenicke, 30, spent the entire season with the Rockies, going 4-2 with a 3.25 ERA (88.2 ip, 32 er), 43 walks and 54 strikeouts in 62 relief outings. His 88.2 innings led Major League relievers this season and his 12 grounded into double plays were tied second-most among MLB relievers. He was originally claimed off waivers from Toronto on June 2, 2011.

Torres, 30, made four separate stints with the Rockies, going 5-3 with a 5.26 ERA (53.0 ip, 31 er), 26 walks and 42 strikeouts in 31 relief appearances. Torres spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs making 13 starts. Torres was originally signed as a minor league free agent on January 11, 2012.

Field, 25, made an appearance in just two games for the Rockies in 2012, going 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. The middle infielder spent the rest of the season as the Triple-A Colorado Springs primary shortstop where he hit .246 (107-for-435) with 31 doubles, 6 triples, 8 home runs and 49 RBI in 121 games. Field was originally selected by the Rockies in the 24th round of the 2008 Draft out of Texas State.

Sullivan, 28, spent the entire season with Double-A Tulsa where he went 1-2 with 17 saves, a 2.76 ERA (62.0 ip, 19 er), 24 walks and 63 strikeouts in 60 relief appearances. His 17 saves and 60 appearances led all Drillers in 2012. Sullivan was originally selected by the Rockies in the fifth round of the 2005 Draft out of Auburn.

The Rockies currently have 37 players on the 40-man roster.
