Colorado Rockies acquire outfielder Randal Grichuk and cash considerations from Toronto for outfielder Raimel Tapia and infielder Adrian Pinto

SCOTTSDALE – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have acquired outfielder Randall Grichuk and cash considerations from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for outfielder Raimel Tapia and Minor League infielder Adrian Pinto.

  • Grichuk (GRICH-ick), 30, has appeared in 883 Major League games across eight seasons for St. Louis (2014-17) and Toronto (2018-21), slashing .245/.293/.473 over his career with 156 home runs and 439 RBI … has hit 20-plus home runs in each of his last five seasons, excluding the shortened 2020 campaign, with a career-best 31 homers in 2019 … in 2021 with the Blue Jays, hit .241 (123-for-511) with 22 home runs and a career-high 81 RBI … led the Blue Jays with 35 RBI and 18 multi-hit games in 2020 while batting .273 (59-for-216) … originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round (24th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft … traded by the Angels along with OF Peter Bourjos to St. Louis for INF David Freese and RHP Fernando Salas on Nov. 22, 2013 … traded by the Cardinals to the Blue Jays for RHP Dominic Leone and RHP Connor Greene on Jan. 19, 2018.
  • Tapia, 28, was signed by Colorado as a non-drafted international free agent on May 28, 2011 … debuted with the Rockies on Sept. 2, 2016 and went on to appear in 439 games for the club through six seasons … a career .280/.325/.395 hitter with 102 extra-base hits and 136 RBI … set career highs in hits (133), runs (69), doubles (26), RBI (50), stolen bases (20) and walks (40) in 133 games in 2021.
  • Pinto, 19, was named the MVP of the Dominican Summer League and earned Minor League All-Star honors at second base in 2021, his first professional season, after slashing .360/.486/.543 with 15 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 27 RBI for DSL Colorado … took 38 walks, struck out 18 times and swiped 41 bags while getting caught just eight times … originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted international free agent on July 2, 2019 … did not play in 2020 due to the cancellation of the Minor League season.
