Colorado Rockies to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day at Coors Field tonight

April 15th, 2022

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies will join Major League baseball in celebrating the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier tonight at Coors Field with a 6:40 p.m. first pitch against the Chicago Cubs. This marks the first year since 2012 that the Rockies have celebrated the occasion at home.

Since 2004, MLB has celebrated “Jackie Robinson Day” to honor the enduring impact of this moment on baseball and American society. Major League Baseball and the Rockies will commemorate the day by highlighting the impact Jackie’s legacy continues to have on our society, particularly through his historic, trailblazing baseball accomplishments and his efforts as an advocate for civil rights and equality.

The special day at Coors Field will include the following:

• Along with the rest of Major League Baseball, each player will wear the number ‘42’ in Dodger Blue, a commemorative 75th anniversary logo sleeve patch and a ‘42’ cap patch. Each player will also wear a ‘Breaking Barriers’ batting practice t-shirt.

• A ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Jackie Robinson Scholar, KyLee Duley.

• The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is a four-year scholarship awarded to students who demonstrate a record of academic excellence, leadership potential and a dedication to community service.

• KyLee, a Parker, Colo., native, is a freshman pursuing a major in finance at the University of Denver. At Legend High School, KyLee founded Cultural Awareness for Everyone (CAFÉ), a program that allows students to share information about their culture in a safe, open environment. He is a member of the National English and Spanish Honor Societies and was also the captain of his varsity basketball team.

In the community, RBI teams from Denver Public Schools will participate in “42 Innings for 42” on Friday and Saturday. The MLB program is a call-to-action to the youth baseball and softball community to play a total of 42 innings over the weekend of April 15th-17th. Leagues will share content of their games (using #Jackie42) on social media where many will be recognized on @PlayBall (Twitter and Instagram) and PlayBall.org.
