2020 Minor League Baseball season canceled

June 30th, 2020

There will not be a Minor League season this year, Minor League Baseball announced Tuesday.

It's the first time the Minor League season has been canceled since the Minor Leagues were founded in 1901.

"These are unprecedented times for our country and our organization as this is the first time in our history that we've had a summer without Minor League Baseball played," MiLB president Pat O'Conner said in a statement. "While this is a sad day for many, this announcement removes the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season and allows our teams to begin planning for an exciting 2021 season of affordable family entertainment."

The Major League season is slated to open on July 23 and 24. MLB's preseason Summer Camp starts Wednesday, when players will report.

All 30 MLB teams have submitted their 60-man player pools for the 2020 season. Those player pools include many teams' top prospects and Minor Leaguers, who will be available to play during the season and can work out at an alternate training site if they don't make their club's Opening Day rosters.
