Royals claim pitcher Chris Volstad on outright waivers from the Chicago Cubs

KANSAS CITY, MO (October 26, 2012) — The Kansas City Royals today have claimed right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad on Outright Waivers from the Chicago Cubs.  The addition of Volstad gives the Royals 40 players on the active 40-man roster.

The 26-year old Volstad made 21 starts in his lone season with Chicago, finishing 3-12 with a 6.31 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 111.1 innings.  The 6-foot-8, 230-pounder is 35-51 with a 4.87 ERA in 124 career appearances (123 starts) since debuting with the Marlins in 2008.  A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Volstad was originally selected by the Marlins in the first round of the 2005 June Free Agent Draft (16th overall).
