Royals build bikes for Arizona kids at spring complex

Club partners with nonprofit group Impact 4 Good for team-building exercise

A group of Arizona school children received early holiday presents from the Royals, who transformed some ballplayers into Santa's elves last month at the team's Spring Training complex.

The club partnered with a nonprofit called Impact 4 Good for a team-building exercise in which players traded their bats and gloves for wrenches at the Royals' year-round facility in Surprise, Ariz. Players worked in small groups to build 10 bicycles by hand. When they were done, they were surprised by the arrival of 10 children from the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix, who were selected based on need to go home with the bikes and a new helmet.

The bike initiative is one of a number of programs offered around the country by Impact 4 Good, which organizes team-building exercises for a number of causes, including the environment, military support, health and medicine, and anti-obesity and anti-hunger programs.
