Fans can go to bat in Home Runs for Hunger

KANSAS CITY -- Ever wonder what it's like to take batting practice or shag fly balls at Kauffman Stadium? You can find out at the second annual Home Runs for Hunger event on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9.

Fans who donate canned food items or make a cash donation to Harvesters-The Community Food Network can smack a ball and chase one, too, at the event hosted by Royals Charities and the Royals grounds crew.

Fans will get one swing against a pitching machine on the field by donating three non-perishable canned food items or by making a $2 contribution. Each participant will be limited to 10 pitches. In addition, batters will be entered in a drawing for autographed memorabilia for each home run hit.

For a $25 donation, fans can shag balls in the outfield for 15 minutes. Bring your own glove. Bats, balls and helmets will be provided.

Weather permitting, the event will go from noon to 5 p.m. CT on Nov. 8 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 9. Children must be at least 48 inches tall to participate and those under 17 need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Family and friends can watch from the stadium seats.
