Holland working way back from minor elbow injury

DETROIT -- Royals closer Greg Holland, who was held out of the weekend series at New York, tested his right elbow on Monday and came out OK. But he likely wouldn't have been used, if needed, in Kansas City's 9-5 loss to the Tigers.

Because of a tight right triceps, Holland has not pitched since last Wednesday, when he picked up his 42nd save against Texas with a perfect, two-strikeout inning.

Would Holland have been used on Monday?

"Probably not today," manager Ned Yost said after the game. "We're real hopeful for tomorrow. He threw on the side today and felt really good. The idea now is just to see how he bounces back from that. And if he shows up tomorrow in pretty good shape, we'll make a determination."
