Omaha's Robinson earns Minors Gold Glove

KANSAS CITY -- Derrick Robinson of the Royals' Triple-A Omaha affiliate on Thursday was named the left fielder on the 2012 Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award team.

Robinson, 25, was one of nine players honored for fielding excellence from the 10 domestic-based, full-season Minor Leagues. From Archer, Fla., Robinson was a fourth-round selection by Kansas City in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, and has played at every level of the organization except for the Major League club.

He was in the big league camp last spring and spent his first season at Triple-A, playing 116 games with a .268 average. In 108 games in the outfield, including 104 in left field, Robinson had 204 putouts, three assists and three errors.

This is the second year for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award for Minor Leaguers. A similar award was given for several years during the 1960s, previously known as the "Silver Glove."
