Royals agree to terms with 10 players on one-year contracts for 2014

SURPRISE, Ariz. (February 27, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has agreed to terms on 2014 Major League contracts with left-handed pitchers Francisley Bueno, Chris Dwyer, Donnie Joseph and John Lamb, right-handed pitchers Michael Mariot and Yordano Ventura, infielders Pedro Ciriaco and Christian Colon, and outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson. Consistent with club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Bueno, 32, did not allow a run in seven relief appearances for the Royals last season, earning a win over Boston on August 9. Dwyer, 25, made his Major League debut for KC last season and went 10-11 with a 3.55 ERA at Triple-A Omaha. Joseph, 26, also made his MLB debut in 2013, pitching at Yankee Stadium on July 11. Lamb, 23, made 22 minor league starts between Class A Wilmington and Omaha. Mariot, 25, served as Omaha's closer last season, going 4-5 with 11 saves and a 3.56 ERA in 47 appearances. Ventura, 22, made his first three Major League starts for Kansas City at the end of last season, going 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA.

Ciriaco, 28, was claimed off waivers by the Royals from San Diego on July 16, and hit .281 with eight doubles and 19 runs scored in 43 games at Triple-A Omaha. Colon, 24, ranked eighth in the Pacific Coast League in hits (140), batting .273 with 12 homers and 58 RBI for the Storm Chasers. Cain, 27, played in a career-high 115 games for the Royals last year, hitting .251 with 21 doubles, three triples, four homers, 14 stolen bases and 46 RBI. Dyson, 29, ranked seventh in the A.L. with 34 steals last year and became the first Royals player with consecutive 30-plus steal seasons since Carlos Beltran did it three-straight years (2001-03).

The Royals have four players who remain unsigned for the 2014 season: left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy, infielder Johnny Giavotella, and outfielder Carlos Peguero.
