Royals prospect Calixte heating up for Naturals

It didn't take long for Orlando Calixte to get going again.

The No. 9 prospect, according to MLB.com, on the Kansas City Royals' Top 20 list, Calixte had four hits, including two home runs, in just his second game of the season. He went 0-for-4 in his 2014 debut on Saturday, delayed by reported visa problems. His second blast was a walk-off in the ninth inning for Northwest Arkansas in the Double-A Texas League.

Calixte didn't have any trouble swinging the bat on Sunday. Serving as the DH one day after playing shortstop, Calixte picked up his first hit of the year, a single in the second inning. He singled again in the third, then picked up his first stolen base. He hit a solo shot with one out in the fifth, then ended the game with a deep fly to left with one out in the ninth to give the Naturals a 9-8 win.

Calixte, who signed back in 2010, is repeating the Texas League after spending the 2013 season there at age 21. In 123 games, the Dominican shortstop hit .253/.312/.368 with 14 steals in 25 attempts. He struck out 131 times in 484 at-bats, something he'll need to continue to work on in 2014.

According to MiLB.com, this was Calixte's third four-hit game of his career, but the first time he had ever hit two homers in one contest. He does have some pop, with a career-high 14 home runs in 2012. Calixte did see time at second and third in 2013, with versatility perhaps being a key to getting him to the big leagues faster.
