As part of the Royals' Legends Weekend celebration, former outfielders Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran and Jermaine Dye met with reporters prior to Saturday's game against the Yankees at Kauffman Stadium.
Q: How much did you appreciate the opportunity to come back, as a trio, too?
Dye (1997-2001): It's definitely great to be back, especially with these guys. Brings back a lot of memories. It's awesome for the organization to be able to do this, and bring some guys back that kind of came up, started their careers here in Kansas City.
Beltran (1998-2004): For me, it's great to be back, and especially being around Jermaine and Johnny, who I got the chance to play with then when I was coming up in the organization. Sometimes to try to put things together like this, for the most part, doesn't work out, because everybody has things to do. So the fact that God made this happen, I really appreciate it.
Damon (1995-2000): I'm really glad we're all back together. I wish we could've played longer together with the Royals. I wish we could've won a World Series with the Royals like they did back in 2015. We all were rooting for them. Kansas City's always going to have a special place in my heart. This was the team I rooted for as a kid, and to be able to play for them for six years and be with them for almost nine years in their organization was great.

Q: You guys weren't together that long, but a lot of people consider you three as maybe the best outfield in Royals history. Does that flatter you guys, or are you maybe embarrassed because of Amos Otis, Willie Wilson, and Al Cowens?
Damon: It's very flattering. Those guys got to play with each other for such a long time, so they could definitely hold the throne. But you put our three numbers together throughout our careers, there's not too many outfield trios that are going to come close to that.
Beltran: Every time you get compared to one of the best in the game, you have to take that as a compliment. We were fortunate to be together for the time that we were together, and we tried to make the most out of it. We took pride in our job. [Dye] took pride in right field, I took pride in center field, Johnny did in left.
Dye: Looking back, after it's all said and done, we're all retired now, we've definitely all had great careers. We all won World Series, and it was a blessing to look back now and go 'What if? What if we all stuck together? What could've happened here in Kansas City?'...But baseball's a business, and we know that.
Q: What do you think of this whole place (Kauffman Stadium) now?
Dye: Oh, it's great. I think I played -- I think my last year, I still came here when this was just finished, so I enjoyed all the new things. It's always been a beautiful ballpark.
Beltran: It's one of the favorite stadiums for a lot of players around the league. They love to come here.
