Royals tab Hosmer, Holland for June awards

KANSAS CITY -- First baseman Eric Hosmer and closer Greg Holland were named Royals player and pitcher of the month, respectively, for their efforts in June.

Hosmer finished the month tied for third in the Majors with 21 runs scored, while leading the team in hits, runs, RBIs and slugging percentage. He led all American League first basemen with four stolen bases and had 11 multihit games, including a two-homer game on June 28. Hosmer batted .303 with six home runs in June after hitting only one homer in his first 223 at-bats this season.

Holland went 1-0 in 13 appearances and converted all nine save opportunities. He finished second among Major League relievers with 24 strikeouts, recording at least one in each of his 13 appearances and three strikeouts on four occasions. The right-hander held opponents to a .119 batting average, allowing just five hits in 13 innings.
