CHICAGO -- Over the past week, the Royals have been experimenting with different lineups.
made his third straight start at second base in Friday night's series opener against the White Sox. It was his fourth start at second in six games after only playing there once in May. will also continue to get extended looks at third base.
"We want to see guys moved around," manager Ned Yost said. "There's no strategy behind it, we want to see. We want to see [Whit Merrifield] in center, we want to see Herrera at third, we want to see Herrera in right, we want to see Herrera at second. We want to see Dozier at first and third."

First baseman is also an option in the outfield.
"I can do that," Yost said. "I can't remember the number, but he played some games in left in [Triple-A] Omaha and did OK, so yeah. Right now it's just trying to, I wish I could play them all every day, I just can't. But I've got to make sure that they're staying semi-strong, too."
Phillips, Mondesi trying to stay fresh
Outfielder and infielder received just a general day off on Friday after the team got to its hotel in Chicago around 3:30 a.m. CT on Friday, Yost said.
Phillips in particular has felt his legs get "heavy" recently, and Yost felt a couple of days off in a row would be good for him.

"He didn't pull anything, it just felt crampy," Yost said. "So just letting him get his feet back underneath him. I imagine he'll be playing again [Saturday]. But I don't want to keep pushing Mondesi so that something like that happens to him, too.
"[Phillips'] legs were starting to get heavy because they had gone a month with playing very little and then they're playing every day. It's a huge workload, with the long night [a rain delay of 2 hours, 14 minutes before the start of the series finale against the Blue Jays at Kauffman Stadium] last night, it's a good chance there to give him a day off."
Worth noting
• Danny Duffy, on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder impingement, will play catch on Saturday.
, on the 10-day DL with a left groin strain, was slated to once again be the designated hitter on Friday in a rehab game with Omaha. Yost said Goodwin will likely take Saturday off before starting to play the field.
